Village of Pinehurst

Southern Pines

Seven Lakes

HOUSE SEARCH

The Village of Pinehurst is best known by outsiders for Golf. And that is the reason that many come here. But they stay because of the community. Most people liken it to a story book town.

Some, but not all properties here are deeded with a transferrable Pinehurst Country Club Membership. This affords residents the opportunity to play some of the world's best every day. The club also offers pools, a beach club, restaurants, tennis, Cricket and more. Contact me for the latest membership packet.

Pinehurst residents also enjoy protective covenants, which maintain the charm and sophistication of the homes and properties.

In our Village, you'll find charming homes, sophisticated shopping and fabulous restaurants. There is plenty of outdoor dining, which we enjoy almost throughout the year.

The homes within the Village were mostly built around the 1930's, and their charm and sophistication is apparent.

Subdivisions in Pinehurst, for the most part, are split up by "Units." These are not necessarily adjacent by order, but are based on when the town developed them. Locals will tell you they live on a certain number hole of a certain number course. This is local speak, and does not correspond with the Unit Numbers.

Some residents are also lucky enough to live on Lake Pinehurst. This is a very clean lake which is accessible from adjacent homes or Pinehurst Beach Club (one of the benefits of Pinehurst Country Club Membership).

Pinehurst also has its share of Gated Communities, which include The National, Mid-South, The Country Club of North Carolina and Pinewild.

The Village is also home to The Carolina Hotel, built in 1895, which includes a couple of hotels, the Pinehurst Spa and the Pinehurst County Club. The club's eight golf courses are played on alternate days by hotel guests and members.

Think of Southern Pines and Pinehurst as Sisters! Pinehurst is the more preppy. While Southern Pines is the more Artistic and Creative sister! Downtown Southern Pines is absolutely whimsical. The shops are all locally owned and operated. The streets are filled with shoppers. And there are no parking meters!

Locals support the local restaurants, book store, clothing stores, recreation stores, toy store and more. Service is personal. The shop owners know your name. And they will hold something to the side if you express interest.

Also Downtown are Cottages, built in the 1930's and 40's, renovated to today's standards (and sometimes in the process of renovation). They have a lot of character and charm. And one can see the pride in ownership.

Go a little further out of town, and you see subdivisions, each with its own attractions. James Creek, Weymouth and Knollwood have lovely private lots and gracious homes. The Sandhursts and Highland Trails are popular locations, with nice homes and plenty of recreational areas

Carthage

Aberdeen

Whispering Pines

HOUSE SEARCH

Carthage is known as the County Seat, as the courts and businesses, as well as single family residents and horse farms call it home.

The town is also known for its BUGGY FESTIVAL, because a legendary carriage factory once called it home for 70 years, producing nationally distributed buggies until closing in 1925.

Carthage is also home to The Pickin' Pig - a casual restaurant located off Dowd Road next to the airfield - featuring Carolina BBQ -- a local favorite. - Coca Cola Cake and more!

HOUSE SEARCH

Located south of Southern Pines, along Highway 1, the Town of Aberdeen is a small sleepy town that is historically significant. It was settled by Scottish Highlanders in the 1700's, who remained faithful to the English Crown. It was a great location for them, because of the railway system, which they used to transport their Tar, Pitch and Turpentine to the Naval Yards.  Today there are privately owned stores, restaurants, homes and cottages. There are Artist enclaves, as well as Blue's Farm, built in the 19th Century by Malcolm Blue, descended from the Scottish Highlanders. Located on 7 acres, it was built 1825 and gives visitors a "taste" of what it must have been like to live in a farm at that time

Whispering Pines started as a Mill Town in 1769. A new mill came in 1865, and then in the 20th Century a rock and concrete dam was built to facilitate a power plant. In 1959, A.B. Hardee developed a golf course and residential community, encompassing 3000 acres, six lakes and two semi-private golf courses.

Today, Whispering Pines has three golf courses. Each of its six lakes are accessible by residents through park-like access points. Someone looking for a lake front property can do so quite cost effectively here.

There are beautiful Grocery Stores and other shops as well as a Private Dog Park.
